Settlement Services in Southern Manitoba

Regional Connections: South Central Settlement and Employment Services serves the South Central Manitoba region.  This includes Winkler, Morden, Altona and several other towns and the surrounding municipalities.  Regional Connections offers services and resources free of charge to immigrants and newcomers in the region.  They do not assist with the process of immigration, only with settlement after immigrating.  They also provide employment-related services to immigrants and unemployed and underemployed individuals eligible to work in Canada.  The following services are offered:

 

Settlement Services

  • Information / orientation about life in South Central Manitoba and Canada
  • Language interpretation
  • Information about health care, education, banking, the law, shopping and housing
  • Connection to community services such as doctors, dentists, schools, etc.
  • Connection to English and an Additional Language (EAL) classes and literacy classes
  • Help filling out forms for Manitoba Health, Social Insurance Number, Child Tax Benefits, Travel Documents, Citizenship and Permanent Resident Cards
  • Liaison and resource for the community regarding issues of concern to immigrants

Employment Services

  • Personal assistance identifying job related skills, developing a resume, cover letter and/or work portfolio
  • Assistance in preparation for job interviews
  • Referrals to related programs for career and training advice
  • Group workshops on developing resumes, cover letters and job interview techniques
  • Self-service job board for job search
  • Computer access to create and print resumes, and internet access for online job searches
  • Facilitation of Credentials Assessments or Qualifications Recognition
